After being blown away by the Dogfish Head 90 Minute, I was offered a chance to try their 60 Minute IPA, as well as pour my own 75 Minute, at a friend’s party a few weeks ago. As with the 90 Minute, this is a very nice American-style IPA. That means it’s not quite as metallic tasting as its English-style cousins, but still has a nice helping of hoppy bitterness. As its name suggests, this one is hopped for 60 minutes instead of 90, so there is not quite as much bitterness, and a bit less alcohol too.
This one pours a nice golden color with a thin head (except when some amateur over-pumped the keg). There wasn’t too much in the nose here–a nice smell of hops, but not overpowering. The taste was crisp, with a good hit of hops both as it hits your tongue and after you swallow. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but it makes for a very easy-drinking brew. I think the carbonation could stand to be a bit less. Mixed with the 90 Minute to form a 75 Minute IPA I think it perhaps the ideal way to serve this beer. The 60 Minute is just a little too laid back for me. If I had to pick one or the other, I’d go with the 90 Minute.
