As promised, I’ve finally gotten around to trying another of Portland’s breweries, picking up a six pack of Casco Bay Brewing’s Riptide Red Ale. An Irish Red Ale (in case the name didn’t make that obvious), this beer pours a lovely reddish orange with a thin head that has an orange tint to it. This one has a sweet smell to it, brown sugar perhaps?
The first sip brings out a caramel flavor and just a little bit of carbonation. There is nowhere near as much hopping in this as some of the others I’ve been drinking lately, but it’s a nice change. There is some maple flavor in here, and the brown sugar in the nose is present on the tongue as well. A little too sweet in the finish for me, but not bad. This one is definitely very drinkable.
