This Pale Ale is my third Geary’s variety in the last month, and I’ve got a six pack of their recently released Winter Ale in the fridge too. The first few times I tried their beers I wasn’t overly taken with them, but given my recent gravitation toward hoppier brews, I’ve found a new appreciation for D.L. Geary Brewing. This American-style Pale Ale pours much lighter in color than their Hampshire Special Ale and without much head to speak of. The aroma contains some roasted malt scents and doesn’t give away much of the taste.
There is not much carbonation in this brew, as evidenced by the lack of head. The most prominent taste was the malts in here, and perhaps a bit more yeast than I was expecting. Several people on BeerAdvocate.com also commented about the yeast. There is not much in the way of hops, which is fairly common for APAs I believe. This is a good crisp beer that improves as it warms a little. Not a standout, but definitely worth drinking.
